How it works?
This practice is based on the Expressive Therapies Continuum, which allows children to engage on multiple levels:
- Kinesthetic & sensory – through movement, touch, and interaction with materials
- Perceptual & emotional – through colors, shapes, and feelings
- Cognitive & symbolic – through meaning-making, reflection, and imagination
Supporting brain development
Working with visual arts actively engages key areas of the brain, including those responsible for:
- movement (motor functions)
- sensory processing (touch and perception)
- thinking and understanding
- language and communication
At the same time, it supports the development of:
- attention and focus
- emotional regulation
- cognitive flexibility
- self-expression
Why it matters
Creative work offers a gentle and natural way for children to grow, especially when traditional verbal approaches may feel challenging. It helps them feel more connected, confident, and supported in their development.
