Soul collage

What is SoulCollage®?

Developed by Seena B. Frost, SoulCollage® is a method of creating small, personal collage cards using found images, textures, and symbols. Unlike traditional art forms that may emphasize technique or aesthetics, SoulCollage focuses on intuition, spontaneity, and inner exploration. There are no rules about composition or skill—only an openness to what emerges.

What makes SoulCollage particularly powerful is its emphasis on personal meaning-making. Each card becomes a symbolic representation of an aspect of the self—emotions, memories, archetypes, or aspirations. After creating a card, practitioners are often invited to reflect on it using prompts such as “I am the one who…,” giving voice to internal experiences that may otherwise remain unarticulated.

This method is also widely used in therapeutic and educational contexts. Its accessibility makes it ideal for individuals who may feel intimidated by traditional art-making, while its depth supports emotional processing and self-discovery.

Beyond therapy, SoulCollage offers a gentle entry into creative flow. The tactile act of cutting and pasting, combined with focused attention, can quiet mental noise and foster a sense of calm engagement. Over time, participants often build a personal “deck” of cards—a visual journal of their inner landscape.

In essence, SoulCollage exemplifies how visual arts can move beyond representation into reflection and transformation. It reminds us that art is not only something to be seen, but something to be experienced—mindfully, intuitively, and deeply personally.

Application Contexts

The method is frequently applied within frameworks supported by the American Art Therapy Association, particularly in:

  • Clinical art therapy (trauma, anxiety, depression)
  • Educational settings (reflective learning, identity exploration)
  • Wellness and coaching environments

Its structured format combined with low technical demand makes it highly scalable and accessible, while still supporting deep psychological engagement.
